About Catania San Diego
Located on the top floor of the newly redesigned La Plaza center on the historic corner of Wall and Girard in La Jolla, Catania is the result of the vision of Whisknladle Hospitality owner Arturo Kassel and Culinary Partner/Director Ryan Johnston who were inspired by a two-week, 1,400 mile road trip throughout Italy years ago. The restaurant provides guests with authentic Italian coastal cuisine in a relaxed, yet elevated setting featuring panoramic ocean views.
Today, the Catania team is led by the immensely talented Executive Chef Dustin Karagheusian. Catania highlights include a rotating selection of fresh crudo, housemade pastas and handcrafted pizzas, all crisped to perfection by Beatrice, the restaurant’s 5,000 pound wood burning oven. Completing the menu is a thoughtful selection of handcrafted desserts overseen by Whisknladle Hospitality Corporate Chef Jojo Rossi, a first generation Sicilian-American.
Upon opening, Catania Restaurant was named one of Zagat's “15 Hottest New Restaurants Around the U.S.,” and continues to be a must-visit in the San Diego dining scene.
About Whisknladle Hospitality
Good food, good wine, great people: This best sums up our philosophy on creating and running our restaurants. While we believe our food and beverage are better than good, we still subscribe to the “Great Good” Food Philosophy where less is more, simpler is better and it’s the quality and freshness of the ingredients that matters most. As Ms. Julia Child once said:
“You don’t have to cook complicated or fancy masterpieces, just good food from fresh ingredients.”
